The Grand Nairobi Bike Race, launched in 2019, began as a modest yet ambitious initiative aimed at bringing together cyclists from all walks of life for a day of enjoyment on the vibrant streets of Nairobi. The vision was simple: to create a platform where cycling enthusiasts, regardless of age, skill level, or background, could come together to share in the joy of cycling while experiencing the unique urban landscape of Nairobi in a new light.
Since its inception, the race has witnessed remarkable growth. What started with just 450 participants in 2019 has now blossomed into a major annual event, attracting over 1,400 cyclists in 2023, on the back of sponsorship by Jubilee Insurance. This exponential increase in participation is a testament to the power of partnerships that drive sports in Kenya and Beyond. It is also an affirmation of the race’s growing popularity and the burgeoning cycling culture in Nairobi and beyond. The event has become a staple in the East African region sporting calendar, drawing cyclists not just from Nairobi but from other parts of Kenya and even from international locations. Last year, we hosted participants from 21 other countries, and look forward to increasing foreign participation.
